COVID-19 Community Tennis Guidelines

We all know tennis is a unique sport with many benefits – the main one being health and well-being. The very nature of our game ensures there is a vital role our sport can continue to play for the benefit of the community as we endure the COVID-19 pandemic. Tennis holds a unique advantage as a sport which requires no direct contact between players and can safely play the game with appropriate distance measures in place. Under the current guidelines set forward by the federal government, we are able to conduct private one on one lessons only. Tiger Tennis is closely following the Community Tennis Guidelines For Continued Play set forth by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and Tennis Australia. Why Tennis?

The benefits of learning tennis go far beyond just learning how to hit the ball correctly. We understand that young children and adolescents go through a crucial time which they will acquire coordination and complex technical skills. Tennis in particular provides countless physical and psychological benefits for children, developing hand-eye coordination, gross motor control (through court movement and striking the ball), fine motor control (through drop shots and volleys), balance and body coordination, all the while building acceleration, speed, leg strength, agility and flexibility.

From a psychological angle, children who play tennis develop skills and strategies that will also serve them well in life off the tennis court. When playing tennis, you are on your side of the court by yourself calling your own lines, so children will learn to accept responsibility for their actions, decisions and mistakes, and can begin to manage these more effectively. Both in practice and competitive environments, tennis fosters work ethic, discipline and sportsmanship in children.
